DOUBLE JEOPARDY

27”h x 27”w x 12”d edition: 36
Fritz White

As the “horse culture” of the Plains Indians advanced, so did his ability to harvest the buffalo.  Hunting the buffalo, however, was never as simple as herding cattle.  The bison is crafty and cantankerous, and can kill his adversary quickly.  In the bronze, “Double Jeopardy”, as many human lives could be lost or wounded in a hunt as in a conflict with tribal enemies.

All the power of the brave’s bow is needed up close and the bull knows he must destroy the horse that has attached himself to his side.  Their legs intertwine, footing is unsure and even if the arrow is true, the horse and hunter may well go down with the hunted.
