Alaska! Klondike! Yukon! It seemed
at the turn of the century that everyone not tied down was heading north. The gold rush sparked it and the
race was on to grab all the resources that were there.
“Into The Yukon” is a bronze of
the “explorers” around 1910 to 1930. The rivers and lakes were the highways of
the terrain. Ridin’ britches, a wool shirt and lace up boots became the uniform.
As a child in the early thirties,
I wore that ‘costume’ to school, and on the kids right boot there was a small
pocket with a snap cover that held a pocket knife. I don’t think it was on the
adult boots, but I put one on “Into The Yukon” just for old times sake. |
