The area that is now the great state of Wyoming was home to and traversed by many tribes of Indians. 

The Shoshone, Sioux, Crow, Cheyenne, Blackfoot, Arapaho, and Pawnee were groups who worked the area rather diligently.  Wyoming was a source for meat, hides, arrow and spear points, and the lodge pole pine, most suitable for tepees. 

In presenting “Wyoming”, it seemed natural to produce a headdress of antelope, but the head and facial characteristics should picture all of these different peoples.  Tracing him back to Mongolia was the way to accomplish this. 

When this piece was on display in China, many Chinese said, almost automatically, “Mongol”.  I felt rewarded
